Support Worker - Homelessness

UnitingCare West (UCW), a leading West Australian not-for-profit community services agency, is committed to achieving justice, hope and opportunity for all working with people and communities so those most in need can belong and thrive.  With a workforce of more than 700 (employee and volunteers), UCW delivers a broad and complex range of services as part of the extensive UnitingCare national network.

 

Amongst the homelessness programs delivered by UnitingCare West is the Tranby Centre.  Located in the heart of Perth, the centre provides support to those most in need.  Around 150 to 200 people arrive at the centre each morning where they can access breakfasts, shower facilities, computers, telephones, clothing and food. 

 

A number of key partners are co-located at the centre.  These include Centrelink, Homeless Health Team, Street Law and the Mental Health Clinical Outreach Team. UnitingCare West supports clients through case management and other models of support.  

 

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team who are highly motivated and committed to social justice and to supporting those most in need in our communities. As part of your role you will be expected to provide support for the development and delivery of homelessness programs which achieve integrated case management and place based support as well as provide relevant service referrals for our clients. 

 

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Be motivated and committed to social justice and supporting those most in need within our communities
  • Possess the interpersonal and communication skills required to effectively work with people from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds
  • Be flexible and able to work early morning shifts (6.45am-12.15pm) and on weekends.
  • Be innovative and adaptable in their approach to the job
  • Be efficient and performance focused.
  • Have a strong, positive working ethos
  • Be team-orientated with a broad understanding of the drivers of homelessness

 

We envisage that the successful applicant will have relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience in roles similar to that advertised. 

You must be able to obtain a current National Police Clearance (or have one that is less than six months old), a Provide First Aid (formerly Senior) Certificate and have a current C class driver's licence for this position.
