The Team

The Disruptive Technology team brings a research and development function to Coles with the remit to explore emerging technologies and the ways they can be applied to solve problems within the business.

The role

As an experienced Senior Software Engineer, you will become part of a team that researches and develops technologies that could transform the way a large organisation approaches core aspects of its business. You will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of current and upcoming technologies such as GPU accelerated machine learning, computer vision, large scale IoT solutions and robotics.

Additionally, you will be responsible for:

  • the design and architecture of software solutions
  • be involved in the development of applications, frameworks, and services to support the team’s R&D activities
  • contribute to the overall design and architecture of a broad array of solutions
  • play a pivotal role in providing general mentor-ship to other developers

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • architectural and component design experience
  • passion for modern design patterns
  • knowledge of concepts like asynchronous programming, queuing, caching, logging, security and persistence
  • experience working in an agile environment
  • confident in learning unfamiliar languages, libraries and technologies
  • ideally used two or more technologies such as: Linux (Ubuntu + RedHat), Python, C++, Java, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Git and/or Kafka
