Systems Safety Manager

The Role:

Do you want to be part of a leading organisation, which dates back 300 years in the shipbuilding industry?

Navantia Australia are currently looking for a highly competent Systems Safety Manager to join the team at its Garden Island office. As the Systems Safety Engineer, you will play an integral role in ensuring the AOR Program delivers the safety requirements and assurances to demonstrate compliance to the Mission System in regards to capability and safety.

This opportunity will suit an energetic and proactive Safety Engineer who comes with strong naval experience and really thrives on delivering systems safety and technical governance.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide day to day system safety program management and safety support and guidance to the design and engineering disciplines.
  • Manage the AOR safety artefacts including Hazard Log, Safety Case, Plant Designer Registration, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Hazard Assessment Reports during In Service of the AOR
  • Develop and manage the AOR System Safety Program Plan
  • Provide support and guidance to the AOR System Safety Program to ensure compliance with the requirements of Safety Standards and Navy Safety Management System ABR 6303
  • Review IMO/SOLAS requirements to ensure compliance
  • Conduct risk assessment and ensuring the technical risk to environmental and safety to personnel is identified, assessed, assigned and actioned
  • Liaise with the Commonwealth/Navy to ensure the mission systems are safe
  • Analyse changes in the Safety System and ensure that the requirements are understood and implemented in the Acquisition and Support Contract

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or related technical discipline
  • Extensive Systems Safety Management experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying any of the following standards; Ship Classification Rules, International Maritime Organisation (IMO) or Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS)
  • Experience in process and system auditing and managing risk assessments
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering requirements in a Marine Environment
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of NV1.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, negotiate and influence effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
  • Occasional interstate and overseas travel to Spain may be required
