Job Summary

This is an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for an experienced Training Manager to join the Serco leadership team at the new state-of-the-art Correctional Centre in Grafton. Being amongst the first hires for this Greenfield site, you’ll use your experience and passion for training as we expand and skill our workforce ready for open in July 2020.

The Clarence Correctional Centre is a 1700 bed facility making it the largest and most state-of-the-art correctional centre in Australia. Serco Australia has a 20 year contract to operate and maintain the centre, creating the opportunity for long-term, rewarding and secure employment with exciting career prospects in one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal and country locations.

About you

We are looking for an experienced Training Manager with the highest level of personal integrity who demonstrates Serco’s values and is passionate about making a positive difference every day.  Your proven ability to drive learning initiatives and outcomes, and your commitment to our rehabilitation programs are critical to your success. Our team helps build safer communities through the delivery of rehabilitation and reintegration programs. Our Training Manager is passionate about contributing to a safer community through the delivery of rehabilitation and training programs that positively impact our staff, visitors and those in our care.

About the opportunity 

The Training Manager is responsible for the delivery of a whole-of-centre training program which meets the ongoing requirements of the Centre and ensures staff are equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel and be safe in their role.  You will deliver the Clarence Correctional Centre Training Plan and Serco’s National Training Plan ensuring all staff training requirements and qualifications are met. 

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Develop and actively promote learning and development 
  • Manage the day to day operation of the training and development team
  • Be experienced in developing, managing and implementing an organisational training plans
  • Provide strong leadership and guidance to staff 
  • Promote and lead Serco’s Values and Code of Conduct and key operating principles 
  • Contribute to good practice across the whole business, striving for continuous improvement
  • Hold a Certificate III and Certificate IV in Correctional Practice
  • Hold Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116 or TAE40110 plus the following additional units TAELLN411 (or its successor) or TAELLN401A, and TAEASS502 (or its successor) or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B
  • Advanced First Aid Certification
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
  • Maintain a high level of integrity
