Legal Counsel

We’re seeking Legal Counsel to join the Perpetual team in our Sydney head office. In this role, you will provide high quality legal services and solutions to Trustee Services and Perpetual Private.

  • Provide sound legal and pragmatic advice to the business Trustee Services Legal supports within agree commercially-orientated timeframes
  • Instruct and manage external legal advisers particularly for managing outsourced litigation
  • Actively follow through on questions or issues raised or encountered to ensure efficient resolution
  • Partner with key internal and external business partners to ensure a high level of customer service to perpetual Private’s clients and potential clients by delivering solutions and outcomes within agree timeframes
  • Work and contribute towards a successful team environment
  • Maintain output and financial targets
  • Work with internal stakeholders to review, negotiate and manage legal issues
  • Support the technical and professional development framework by staying abreast of legal developments that may impact the relevant business until through continuing legal education and research
  • Work with internal stakeholders to manage workflow and relationship with legal services
  • Proactively develop and maintain relationships with the business which Trustee Services Legal supports, external legal providers, other external professionals and professional bodies.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor of Laws and holding a current unrestricted practicing certificate
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a Legal role, preferably with a trustee
  • Ability to form effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to function effectively and productively within a team environment
  • Confident, enthusiastic, motivated, takes ownership and responsibility of all matters and shows exceptional attention to detail
  • Research and legal drafting skills
  • Legal analytical skills
  • Ability in client management and service

What you’ll need to stand out:

  • Experience in Trusts Law/Succession Law
  • Demonstratable Estate and Trust work experience, knowledge of the financial management regime in NSW and experience in Philanthropic matters
  • Proven ability to draft complex advices
