Job Summary

The Clarence Correctional Centre is due to open in mid-2020, with a 1700 bed facility, making it the largest and most state-of-the-art correctional centre in Australia. Serco Australia has a 20 year contract to operate and maintain the centre, creating the opportunity for long-term, rewarding and secure employment with exciting career prospects in one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal and country locations.

You hold the highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour and demonstrate moral values in everything you do. You have a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and enjoy working collaboratively with others to achieve goals and objectives. You understand the importance of creating and maintaining a culturally sensitive environment including respecting the diversity of inmates, staff and other stakeholders. Your exceptional interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to establish rapport, build and maintain positive relationships and exercise sound judgement will ensure you are well placed for success in this role.

About the opportunity

In your position of Safety & Security Equipment Coordinator, you will coordinate the procurement, storage, handling, maintenance, disposal and document control of weapons, ammunition, keys, tools and all additional safety and security related equipment within the centre. You will partner with key stakeholders to implement departmental processes and provide advice to management regarding safety and security equipment and any compliance related issues.

You will also play an active role in liaising with external agencies where appropriate in relation to safety and security equipment. You will undertake checks and audits in accordance with procedural requirements and ensure the operational readiness and administration of safety and security equipment. In addition, you will ensure the centre maintains an accurate weapon asset records system and liaise with stakeholders to ascertain whether staffs engaged in the use of weapons have the necessary qualifications and accreditations.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Ideally have demonstrated experience in the correctional industry or similar environment
  • Ideally hold your Certificate III Correctional Practice, or the ability to obtain a Glock Armourers Certification however this is not a mandatory requirement to be considered for this position
  • Experience in the interpretation and application of legislation and procedures
  • Have a demonstrated ability to safely handle and maintain firearms, security equipment and associated materials
  • Experience in preparing quality reports and a high level of computer literacy
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Maintain a high level of integrity
