Job Summary
This is an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for Correctional Case Officers. As the first hires for the state-of-the-art Clarence Correctional Centre in Grafton, you’ll get the opportunity to use your skills and experience assisting with the pre-operational activities as we expand our workforce ready for commencing operations in July 2020.

The Clarence Correctional Centre is due to open in mid-2020, with a 1700 bed facility, making it the largest and most state-of-the-art correctional centre in Australia. Serco Australia has a 20 year contract to operate and maintain the centre, creating the opportunity for long-term, rewarding and secure employment with exciting career prospects in one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal and country locations.

About you
You are experienced in a custodial or law enforcement environment and motivated and ready to take the opportunity to assist with various ramp up activities to support commencing operations. You also have strong communication skills and are respectful with a commitment and passion for the on-going rehabilitation of the people in our care. About the opportunity
As a Correctional Case Officer, Dog Handler you will participate in the delivery of specialist services to enhance the security of the Clarence Correctional Centre. You will be responsible for maintaining strict control of all issued security equipment and enforce the Clarence Correctional Centre Dog Strategy by detecting and deterring trafficking of drugs and contraband undertaking patrols and providing immediate response in emergency situations. In your role you will manage the health, welfare, safe kennelling and control of any dog owned by Serco maintaining strict control of these corrective service dogs at all times.

You will play an integral role in promoting rehabilitation and reintegration, ensuring the safety and security in the centre and the community, and provide a safe and respectful environment to everyone in the centre.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have similar experience within a correctional or law enforcemnet environment
  • Undertake the Dog Handler Training Program (14 weeks)
  • Become accredited as a Serco/Corrective Services Dog Handler
  • Be committed to the learning pathways available to you to obtain your Certificate III Correctional Practice (CSC30115)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Serco’s values and the rehabilitation process
  • Demonstrate a competent level of computer literacy and report writing
  • Proficient interpersonal and communications skills
  • Maintain a high level of integrity
