Assistant Grower

Our client an industry leading wholesale nursery committed to using the most advanced technologies while supplying customers in Victoria with the variety of vegetable seedling plants.

Reporting to and supported by the Head Grower, the Assistant Grower is responsible for assisting with implementing day-to-day operations of the nursery (growing department), set out in the daily schedule by the head grower, including fertigation, moisture and disease management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete daily (growing) tasks across the site, in order to complete work on time.

• Operate the Irrigation/Fertigation system;

• In consultation with the Head Grower, assist with identifying, preventing and implementing nutritional, moisture or pest/disease issues throughout the nursery;

• Assist with control of stock, undertake weekly stock takes and report relevant documentation to the Head Grower;

• Implement the pest & disease program as set out by the Head Grower;

• Assist with spraying, operating and maintaining small machinery for pest/disease management;

• Assist in weekend and after-hours nursery management when required, with the possibility of a rotating roster.

Skills and Experience:

• A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in a hands-on role in a vegetable or plant nursery operation, including the use of relevant machinery;

• Competence using the Priva Operating System (desirable);

• Intermediate computer literacy and portable media devices;

• A ‘hands on’ supervisory approach, leading by example and demonstrating a strong work ethic.

• The ability to work within a team as well as autonomously;

• Certificate or Diploma qualification in horticulture, agriculture or similar;

• Agricultural Chemical User Permit (desirable);

• Forklift License (desirable).
