Microbiology Analyst Level II - Pathogen Laboratory

The team at DTS have developed robust quality systems, invested in comprehensive equipment, assets and services to ensure that our facility is a world class operation.

We are seeking to appoint a Microbiology Analyst Level I into the Pathogen lab. The primary objective of the role is to perform routine sample preparation and food testing. Analysts conduct a wide range of basic tests and a limited range of specialised tests, in microbiology this role is for people who are experienced in sample preparation and or set up microbiological tests and interpret the results. This position is a 4 month contract working Tuesday to Saturday on day or afternoon shift.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working safely
  • Applying the quality objectives
  • Using the laboratory application software 
  • Performing routine sample preparation and a range of routine tests
  • Identifying problems and solving them if the solution is obvious, and knowing who to ask if the solution is not obvious
  • Performing basic troubleshooting
  • Indicative skills used at this level include; aseptic technique, preparing standard solutions, serial dilutions, add enrichment media, incubation samples.  
  • Organising work areas such as tubes for transfer and plates for isolate presumptive sample
  • Reporting results for batches of automated tests
  • Understanding the principles of tests performed
  • Plus any other duties as required, as matched to your competence and ability to perform

RELEVANT EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma or Degree in Science or related discipline
  • Hands on experience in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to prioritise work in order to meet daily deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Capacity to work effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of OHS requirements within a laboratory
