We are looking for a Caseworker to join the Intensive Family Preservation (IFP) program.

About the opportunity

The Uniting Intensive Family Preservation Services Western Sydney (IFPS) works with families who are referred by Family and Community Services (FaCS) where they have been concerns about the care and protection of a child. 

IFPS has a team of caseworker who have experience working with families in the child protection system. The IFPS service aims to: 

  • Keep children in their homes in a safe, stable and nurturing family enviroment
  • Support family reunification
  • Maintain and preserve placement stability 
  • Improve children's wellbeing

IFPS is a 6 month home visiting service. We work with families to identify their strengths and what they need for their family to  achieve positive outcomes.
Our Intensive Family Preservation program offers casework and a broad spectrum of support services to families in crisis, of up to six months duration in most cases, but up to twelve months where needed.

This program utilises a practice framework for supporting families experiencing domestic violence.
Working within a multi-disciplinary team and supported by a comprehensive training program in trauma informed practice you will assess families' needs holistically assisting them to form goals that will address their therapeutic needs.

Your key responsibilities will include:

You will be an integral member if the Intensive Family Preservation team. 

  • Maintain a high standard of conduct and work performance based on Uniting's values to promote our reputation with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure interrogation and collaboration across Uniting programs to deliver seamless and impactful end to end services with the customer at the centre
  • Actively engage and participate in the performance management framework and review processes at Uniting
  • Contribute to a culture of openness, Feedback and Productivity 
  • Provide intensive casework and case management services to Aboriginal, Torres Stratit Islander and Non-Aboriginal families and to families with complex needs in the program in accordance with the Homebuilders model, policies and procedures
  • Provide planning support and structure for the safety of children and young people and immediately take appropriate action in line with agency policies and relevant professional responsibilities where the safety of the child or young person is at risk
  • Asses the crisis the family is facing and establish and intervention involving intensive home visiting, which ensures the safety of the child is paramount
  • Assess families' strength and needs using the NCFAS G+R and other approved assessment tools
  • Assist families to formulate and achieve goals that are child focused and address the safety and well being of the child
  • Facilitate and the development and implementation of case plans with families
  • Conduct risk assessments of worker safety and develop strategies to offset risk 
  • Advocating on behalf of service users and linking them to ongoing support
  • Availability to provide services to families, children and young people at times and in locations that are most suitable to their needs, including evenings and weekends

Qualifications

  • Degree level Qualifications or equivalent in Social Work, Welfare, Psychology or related field

Skills & experience

  • 2 years casework experience working within your field of expertise
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Willing to be trained in the Homebuilders Model
  • Experience using a variety of intervention strategies from a range of theoretical models
  • Demonstrated commitment to children remaining with their own family provided they are safe
  • The ability to assess and work with families to strengthen attachment and bonding between parent and child
  • Concrete understanding of child protection issues and an ability to conduct risk and family assessments within a competency based approach
  • A solid commitment to children and young people remaining with their own family provided they are safe
  • Current driver's license and willingness to transport families, children and young people
