About the organisation

Opened in November 2013, Chris O'Brien Lifehouse is a 125-bed world-class cancer treatment and research facility.  A full range of cancer services are provided at Lifehouse, including ambulatory clinics, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, day and overnight surgery. Inpatients are accommodated in four wards of 24 beds supported by an intensive care unit.  Our mission is to improve the quality of life for cancer patients, carers and their families, by providing a comprehensive integrated cancer centre with advanced surgical technologies.

About the role

We are currently looking for a new team member to join our dynamic and fast paced team on a full-time basis. In this new and versatile role, you will be working with the radiation oncology administration team, where no day will be the same. This is a new role which will entail a combination of providing administrative support to our doctors, as well as be a key member in the roll out of fee initiatives, with face to face contact with patients.  

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • First point of contact for patients (radiotherapy-related) billing enquires
  • Liaising with patients regarding costs associated with radiation treatment
  • Liaising with patients to book in initial and follow up doctors’ consultations
  • Communicating with radiation oncology doctors to ensure efficient management of their clinics 
  • Direct point of telephone contact for patients
  • Liaising with referring doctors’ rooms as required
  • Ensuring patient medical records are consistently up to date
  • Assistance with radiation oncology reception cover
  • Other ad hoc administration tasks as required

Essential skills and experience

  • At least two years’ experience working in a private specialist medical practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Australian Medicare billing system
  • Previous experience in an accounts / billing role in radiation therapy will be highly regarded
  • Excellent people skills and empathetic nature
  • Excellent organisational skills, including demonstrated time management skills, initiative and ability to make decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills and interpersonal skills
  • Can do attitude with a desire to make a difference every day
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality
