You are responsible for advising core business units within TasNetworks on a wide variety of commercial, corporate and property law matters. In addition, you will assist advising on more strategic or complex matters and in specialist legal areas such as dispute resolution, information management and disclosure legislation and projects and construction law.

If you answered yes to the above and you are seeking a position that offers lifestyle balance we would like to hear from you.

Can you deliver?

  • Provide quality and fit for purpose advice to the business on commercial contracts, general corporate matters and other legal matters as required.
  • Gain knowledge of TasNetworks’ property portfolio and related rights, undertake land acquisitions and disposals and advise on a range of other property issues.
  • You will be offered varied legal work in a fast paced environment, a degree of autonomy not found in private practice, a cohesive and collaborative workplace and the opportunity to work on strategic renewable energy projects of national significance.
  • Support other Corporate Counsel in the team on strategic business initiatives and more complex legal matters.
  • You will become one of 7 lawyers in TasNetworks’ 11 person legal team. Your primary focus will be to assist the General Counsel and the Leader Legal Services to provide independent legal advice and direction.
  • Coordinate external legal advisors as required, including preparing scopes of work and forecasting and managing external legal spend.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal clients, key contractual counterparties, regulators, relevant Government departments and agencies and other external parties.
  • Keep abreast of legal development and practice across relevant legal jurisdictions and undertake appropriate continuing professional education to maintain and update professional knowledge base.
  • Work closely with the business to identify potential risk from a legal perspective and to develop appropriate strategies for managing risk.
What does success look like?

  • We require tertiary qualifications in law and a current Tasmanian legal practising certificate (or eligibility for admission in Tasmania).
  • 3-5 years PQE experience, at least some of which will have been gained in private practice in a leading full services commercial law firm.
  • A commercial, pragmatic and flexible approach to delivering legal services - able to deliver advice that is customer-centric and solutions focused.
  • Communicates effectively via multiple platforms that convey a deep understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
