Director of Music - Teacher

Braemar College is an independent, co-educational, ecumenical school for students in Years 5 to 12. The College is located near Woodend, less than an hour from Melbourne’s CBD. The successful candidate will experience working in one of the most unique educational settings, and lead committed and passionate students and staff with the support of the College Leadership Team.

Position:

Braemar College seeks to appoint a musically talented, enthusiastic and passionate teacher as Director of Music. This is a leadership position within a team of approximately 10 Instrumental Music Tutors, including Voice/Vocal, Woodwind, Strings, Brass, Percussion and Harp.

One of the requirements of this role is to direct ensembles and orchestras in conjunction with our experienced and professional Instrumental Music Tutors and Teachers.

Responsiblities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead all aspects of the co-curricular Music program including choirs, ensembles, and events.
  • Co-ordinate all aspects of the Instrumental Music lessons for students.
  • Continue to build a culture of engaging musicianship amongst students.
  • Develop and promote the Music program within the College and Community.
  • Implement strategies that ensure students are provided with opportunities to experience a rich and varied music program which reflects the curriculum links.
  • Maintain high standards of learning and teaching, assessment and reporting.
  • Use data to inform differentiated practice.

About You:

It is expected that you:

  • Have the ability and skills to support the co-curricular Music program in an innovative and professional manner.
  • Are willing to actively participate in the wider Music program including rehearsals, concerts and College events.
  • Demonstrate an enthusiastic approach to learning of Music
  • Have a proven ability to lead and maintain positive relationships with students, Instrumental staff, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
  • Embed learning technologies within the program.
  • Have the ability to teach VET music subjects  (would be an advantage)
  • Will be a current VIT registered teacher. 

The successful candidate will commence at the beginning of the 2020 school year.

In addition, the preferred applicant will have an understanding of and commitment to, the ethos of Independent schooling and a willingness to contribute to the College’s co-curricular program.
