Health Club Instructor & Personal Trainer

About the Centre

The Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities (BLAF) are managed by the YMCA in partnership with the facility’s owners, the City of Boroondara. The BLAF consists of the four leisure and aquatic facilities in the municipality of Boroondara; Kew Recreation Centre, Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre, Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre and Boroondara Sports Complex.

Key Elements of the Role

The Health Club Instructor will take existing and new members through initial consultations, program demonstrations & reviews. The Personal Trainer will design and deliver specialised programming to clients in a 1-on-1 or small group training environment.

This position requires a person who is 100% dedicated to the YMCA values and the BLAF Health and Wellness direction. Through developing a rapport with members, the Personal Trainer fosters a commitment to lead a world class customer experience to provide the tools to achieve improved health and wellbeing for all clients, members and patrons.

Health Club Instructor (Permanent Role)

Provide the very best health and fitness advice both to members exercising in the Health Club and to patrons booked in for Planning session/Bio-Scans and Program Check/re-scan appointments

Supervise, motivate and coach all Health Club users, giving technical ques, support and encouragement

Have knowledge of relevant centre procedures and policies to be able to immediately respond to customer needs or concerns

Maintain a safe, clean and excellently presented exercising environment for all patrons

Ensure patrons conform with gym etiquette guidelines

Personal Trainer (Casual Role)

Adhere to personal training manual, policies and procedures

Be punctual and professional in customer service delivery

Deliver periodised, quantified results based, motivating and goal orientated personal training sessions

Deliver preprogramed sessions to maximise the benefits achieved

Comply with YMCA best practice model for Personal Training

Complete BLAF trainings as per the BLAF HR calendar prerequisites and expectations

Selection Criteria

 

Knowledge and Experience

Within "The BLAF" we require PTs of sound values, principles, beliefs and a great attitude. Previous experience isn’t a must but a great work ethic, a commitment to invest in your own professional development and a passion for your own fitness philosophy is essential.

Other requirements of the role include: 

Strong time-management skills to ensure thorough preparation for, and punctuality to all clients, shifts and classes.

Strong interpersonal skills to be able to build strong rapport with a diverse membership base

Attend staff meetings/training as required

Work early mornings, evenings and weekends

Read and keep up to date with area communications, policies and procedures

Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

 

YMCA, including Boards of Directors, is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

• A national criminal history check;

• An international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas;

• Holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws;

• ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)

• Two reference checks.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
