Job Summary         

This is an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for experienced Nurse Unit Manager’s to join the Health Services team at the new state-of-the-art Correctional Centre in Grafton.

You will have the opportunity to fully utilise your skills and experience and be part of the delivery of timely holistic care according to scope of practice within a correctional health setting.

This role will have a focus on women’s health including sexual health.

The Clarence Correctional Centre is a 1700 bed facility making it the largest and most state-of-the-art correctional centre in Australia. Serco Australia has a 20-year contract to operate and maintain the centre, creating the opportunity for long-term, rewarding and secure employment with exciting career prospects in one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal and country locations.

 

About You

We are looking for experienced Nurse Unit Manager’s with the highest level of personal integrity who demonstrates Serco’s values and is passionate about making a positive difference every day.

 

You will have a demonstrated ability to provide the highest quality medical services within a multidisciplinary Health Services team comprising of doctors, nurses and specialist service providers. As a patient-focused health professional you will be passionate about contributing to a safer community through the delivery of accessible, effective, and high-quality continuity of health services to those in our care.

 

You also have strong communication skills and are respectful with a commitment and passion for our values and contributing to a safe and respectful environment

 

About the Role

Our Health Services team provide primary care based on a patient-centred model allowing l patients to actively participate in their health management. The team will work closely with correctional staff to deliver holistic and integrated patient-centred health services that:

  • treat and prevent communicable disease, and proactively treat chronic disease;
  • educate custodial patients on healthy living and lifestyle choices;
  • assist with reintegration back into the community and provide continuity of care; and
  • address the diverse needs of the custodial patient population, including men, women and culturally and linguistically diverse peoples through specific tailoring.

 

Reporting to the Health Services Manager you will provide comprehensive and sustainable primary health care to patients in our correctional environment.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1), with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Recognised post graduate tertiary qualification in a clinical speciality or management or equivalent relevant experience
  • Previous full-time post graduate experience (or part-time equivalent) in a similar capacity or as a team lead within a recognised, formal healthcare setting
  • 2 years within the last 5 years in a sexual and reproductive / women health setting
  • Previous experience in a correctional setting is advantageous but not essential
  • Experience in the provision of clinical leadership, establishing standards and direction for Clarence Correctional Centre in the area of nursing care
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA
  • Strong direct and in-direct people-management abilities
  • First class communication skills and able to operate at a Senior Management level
  • Self-management, motivation and resilience abilities as this position will mainly work autonomously
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation and externally with a range of personnel
  • Cultural awareness including understanding the impact and management and working with people of different ethnic backgrounds, customs and contemporary issues
  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
