Team Leader Sport and Recreation

- Provide leadership in the development of sports clubs and provision of sport and recreational programs and facilities;
- Provide opportunities for participation and foster an active and healthy community through a range of initiatives that embrace diversity and inclusion principles;
- Balance demands on facilities with increasing growth, particularly in female participation in sport;
- Full time permanent position – based in Cheltenham, Melbourne
We are seeking a Team Leader Sport and Recreation to join our Kingston Active Department and lead a small team in managing the planning, co-ordination and delivery of services in the, sport, recreation and leisure area.
The role will involve working with and responding to our 100+ sporting clubs and associations. This role will deal directly with the sports clubs on operational issues, funding agreements, ground allocations, casual bookings and leases and licences, among other things.
This position supervises two Sport and Recreation Response Officers and a Booking Administration Officer, providing them with day to day guidance and support.
The role will require you to build strong relationships and interact with a range of clubs, community sporting groups and internal stakeholders.
You will be joining the team at an exciting time of change, innovation and growth. You will work closely with Council’s Leisure Centre Directors, and the Team Leader Sport and Recreation Major Projects who is responsible for the planning of future facilities and the delivery of major sport and recreation projects.
You will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong partnerships and provide a front-line ‘customer first’ approach to sports clubs, associations and the community.
You will have a sound, contemporary knowledge of sport and recreation industry trends and issues confronting community-based sport and recreation clubs and organisations.
You enjoy a challenge, are passionate about delivering for the community and have a “can do” attitude. Your willingness to work proactively with other council departments and the community to ensure timely outcomes will be the key to your success.
