Interaction Designer

Our Public Sector consulting team is growing, and we are looking for agile, design led and transformative consultants to join our Canberra team. We are a team of designers, developers, change managers and agile transformation specialists that love working in multi-disciplinary teams to solve our client’s complex business challenges.  
We are seeking an experienced Interaction Designer to be able to work in our Canberra Digital Business Consulting team focused on Federal Government clients. As the Interaction Designer you will work as part of multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with user researchers, service designers, developers, data analysts, Scrum Masters and clients to design human centred concepts and solutions. 

In Canberra, you’ll get to work in our Digital Transformation Centre (DTC) in which we use to focus’ on the design, development and delivery of next-generation digital services and solutions — including mobile, website and enterprise applications, AR/VR and gaming, cybersecurity, data analytics and intelligent automation. As part of a network of DTC’s across Australia (and the world), you will apply a Lean start-up approach based on design thinking, Agile, Lean and DevOps principles to rapidly develop solutions to client’s business challenges, delivering measurable business value in alignment with client’s business strategies.  


Responsibilities:  

  • Design concepts for web, mobile and emerging digital projects (such as AR and VR) 
  • Support business design activities related to application software, data and packaged solutions  
  • Produce human centred designs and artefacts which take into account both user needs and business goals 
  • Design creative solutions to problems that evaluate and assess user, business & technical goals and needs 
  • Contribute to the DTC framework to determine the methodological steps that are appropriate 
  • Establish credibility at all levels with clients and build problem-solving partnerships  
  • Using models, wireframes, documentation, or prototypes clearly communicate solutions to client problems 
  • Define client user interface design through information architecture, wireframes and user flows and validate it through usability testing 
  • Work with clients and DXC team members to design end-to-end experiences using best practice design techniques including observational studies, contextual enquiry, usability testing, and other forms of qualitative and quantitative research to uncover insights, learn about user behaviour and verify design concepts 
  • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationales 
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure that design specifications are implemented 

Key Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Bachelor's degree in design, business, computer science or related field preferred 
  • 5+ years of experience in UX design, preferably within a consulting environment 
  • A strong portfolio of digital design work that demonstrates a high attention to detail and understanding of best practice UX and design principals 
  • Experience working with agile delivery assurance principles and procedures 
  • Strong analysis and up-to-date knowledge of current digital and interaction design trends 
  • Experience in Agile ways of working in a project environment and a practitioner of Human Centred Design methodologies and principles.  
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment 
  • Ability to devise creative design solutions 
  • Ability to convey a strong presence, professional image, and deal confidently with complex business problems
