About the role:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide accurate and timely reporting and financial support to the Bunnings Store Development team. Reporting to the Commercial Accountant – Store Development & Visual Merchandising, other focus areas include managing a system of cost control and reporting for capital projects (new stores, trade centres, upgrades, expansions, rollouts, concept works and merch projects) to ensure that capital expenditure remains within budget.

 

As the Trainee Accountant – Store Development, you can expect to: 

  • Support the Commercial Accountant with the capital budget, overhead budget & forecast for store development
  • Execute monthly P&L preparation and analysis, department KPI reports, 2IC in overseeing the processing and timely payment of supplier invoices
  • Provide value adding analysis to facilitate efficient and effective decision making across the department (drive better outcomes)
  • Monitor costs versus budget and provide detailed variance analysis commentary
  • Implement ongoing ‘review’ procedures in order to cost effectively meet the business objectives
  • Maintain necessary controls and compliance & ensure classification of spend is appropriate (capex/opex)
  • Implement ongoing reviews and improve processes addressing issues such as project cost control, procurement and onsite delivery processes
  • Develop and maintain key business relationships within the store development team

 

  • You’ll need: 

  • Completion of Commerce or business degree with relevant accounting & finance majors
  • Working toward CPA / CA or equivalent qualification
  • 2+ years working in a fast-paced finance or accounting function - Retail industry desirable
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Be customer service orientated & ability to build relationships
  • Hold analytical skills & commercial acumen
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment
  • Strong organisational skills & ability to meet deadlines
