Community Development Coordinator, headspace - Penrith & Mt Druitt

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation.  Our mission is to deliver improvements in the mental health, social well being and economic participation of young Australians.  To this end, headspace aims to be the focal point for youth mental health issues across the country.  headspace Mount Druitt and Penrith Hill bring together an integrated and collaborative team of co-located and affiliated services, working as a coordinated network under the same lead agency, Parramatta Mission. We aim to provide a one stop shop approach of services to young people aged between 12-25yrs who are at risk of mental health and substance use issues across Western Sydney and Nepean regions.

Job Description

This position will be instrumental in developing, implementing and evaluating projects to build the capacity of the community to respond to mental health, drug and alcohol, primary care and social recovery issues of young people, via a broad range of community awareness, health promotion and health education activities.  


Essential Criteria
• Experience in facilitating Community Development initiatives and projects
• Demonstrated management experience
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal 
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
• Sound knowledge of the mental health and community sector
• Sound knowledge of mental health promotion and messaging
• Demonstrated ability to consult with a wide range of stakeholders to develop  local referral networks and implement community awareness and education campaigns
• Ability to document, monitor and report on community awareness strategies and plans
• Interpersonal skills and ability to relate to young people
• Ability to produce newsletters and health promotion resources
• Current driver’s license
• Computer literacy in Windows Office programs
