Float Legal Assistant

We are seeking a Float Legal Assistant to provide exceptional legal support to various practice groups within Jackson McDonald on a 12 month maximum-term contract.

About the role

The position will ideally suit a person who enjoys variety in their day and working in different teams. We are also looking for someone who is adaptable, disciplined and motivated to pro-actively seek work from others in their allocated practice areas.   

Duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • electronic diary management including scheduling appointments, booking boardrooms, helping project manage events and organising team meetings
  • liaising with clients and staff on day-to-day matters
  • opening, maintaining and archiving files
  • preparing a variety of legal documents and correspondence including emails, memos and letters
  • editing documents with a high level of accuracy
  • working with large documents, including track changes and mark ups
  • management of telephones, emails, and voicemail for team members
  • conducting searches and attending to elodgment of Court documents
  • monthly billing, and
  • file management including opening, maintaining (electronic and physical filing) and archiving files

About you

It is essential to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the firm’s values; to proactively take responsibility for your own actions; and to be committed to workplace diversity and occupational health and safety.

To be successful in this role you will also demonstrate:

  • a minimum of 3 years' solid experience as a legal assistant gained within corporate professional services
  • a flexible and adaptable approach to deal with daily legal assistance across multiple desks as required
  • strong typing skills, proven in speed and accuracy
  • advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (preferably 2016 version)
  • strong ability to prioritise and multitask
  • excellent attention to detail, highly developed organisational skills, proactivity and strong initiative
  • an outgoing and friendly personality with the ability to communicate with staff members of all levels; and
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The following are not essential but will be highly regarded:

  • previous experience with FileSite, Elite Billing and InterAction; and
  • prior experience as a float legal assistant.
