Programs Coordinator/Director

A community not-for-profit organisation with 17 million participations annually across Australia. 8,000 staff and volunteers serve at more than 150 locations every day. We partner with government and private capital to deliver programs and services that include community recreation, adventure and stadium sports, camping, learn to swim, children's programs, early learning, youth services, retirement living, disability services and social enterprises.

About the Centre

Boroondara Sports Complex is a multi purpose facility, having been recently redeveloped in 2016.

The facility hosts 5 indoor sports courts, gymnastics facilities, gym, group fitness and outdoor aquatics.

Boroondara Sports Complex is proudly managed by the YMCA on behalf of City of Boroondara.

Our gymnastics program currently caters for over 1,000 gymnasts and classes currently operate across 6 days (Monday - Saturday) with the expansion of Sunday classes likely in Term 4.

Our Learn to Swim is a seasonal school and school aged based program operating in October - March.

Our 5-court stadium is home to over 60 various community groups ranging in sports.

Key Elements of the Role

As our Programs Coordinator/Director, you will be responsible for helping to drive performance amongst the broader staff teams through active coaching and leadership. The successful applicant will be flexible in the range of portfolios they would have the ability to lead.

The Programs Coordinator/Director will have a values based leadership style that is aligned with the YMCA Values. They will have previous experience in leadership and coaching, be a strong decision maker and will be able to manage a multitude of tasks using strong time management and organisational skills.

The Programs Coordinator/Director is responsible for the overall leadership and delivery of key portfolios within the Boroondara Sports Complex suite of programs and services. The initial leadership and responsibility of this role will include leadership and support in the following:

  • Gymnastics
  • Stadium
  • Seasonal Learn to Swim Program and Schools Program
  • Café

The successful applicant will be flexible in the range of portfolios they would have the ability to lead with initial portfolio's including gymnastics, stadium and learn to swim.

Selection Criteria

  • Previous experience leadership of large teams
  • Experience in networking and working with community stakeholders
  • Previous experience in program leadership (eg. gymnastics, learn to swim)
  • Applicants must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently and as a member of a larger team.
  • Ability to develop programs through the creation and delivery of project briefs and plans including basic project budgets, timelines, resources required and evaluation to measure both outcomes and outputs.

Qualifications

YMCA, including Boards of Directors, is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

• A national criminal history check;

• An international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas;

• Holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws;

• ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)

• Two reference checks.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
