General Manager

This organisation specialises in the manufacturing and distribution of technology driven products that service the civil and industrial markets globally. As part of the growth strategy, the Australian based organisation is looking to expand its presence and grow sales through a variety of global distribution networks.

To develop, drive and deliver this growth, the organisation requires an entrepreneurial General Manager who has a commercial mindset with the ability to highlight the value of an emerging product or service to a distribution network both home and abroad.

Based in Melbourne and reporting to the Board, the General Manager will have two clear objectives; To develop the distribution network further in key global regions, and to diversify the product and service offering.

As a senior leader of the organisation, the General Manager will be given a level of autonomy to develop the business further. This will include but not be limited to the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall business leadership for the organisation to ensure it is achieving its sales growth strategy
  • Prepare (in conjunction with the Board), and execute on, the company's strategic and operational plans
  • Develop, and execute on, the company's marketing plan, including increasing brand awareness through targeted social media activities
  • Travel regularly (every six weeks) overseas to develop, build and improve the distribution network
  • Work closely with existing key partners and distributors globally to improve sales
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the manufacturing team and implement appropriate research and product development
  • Achieve substantial diversification of product offering
  • Oversee the company’s P&L ,and work closely with the finance team
  • Maintain appropriate expenditure controls

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in the marketing of industrial products through distribution networks (preferably globally), including the preparation of marketing plans and execution of tactical marketing strategies
  • Experience in strategic and operational planning processes
  • A track record of delivering product and financial growth across a distribution network
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with sales growth and product diversification to improve revenue and profitability being front of mind
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to develop professional relationships with a variety of stakeholders and partners globally
  • Degree qualified in Business, Marketing or a related field is preferred
  • An ability to travel internationally on a regular basis
  • An understanding of the difference in the roles of board and management
