Part Time Laboratory Assistant (Clinical Trials)

Part Time Laboratory Assistant (Clinical Trials) – 20 Hours per week

We are currently Australia's third largest specialist pathology provider focussed on innovative thinking and emerging technologies, as well as developing close business relationships and providing tailored solutions that will benefit our partners, practitioners and patients.

We currently have a vacancy for a Part Time Laboratory Assistant (Clinical Trials) to join the Port Melbourne Clinical Trials Laboratory team. Part Time hours initially will be 20 hours per week.  Port Melbourne operates across Monday – Sunday and is located at Williamstown Rd, Port Melbourne.

The Port Melbourne laboratory currently performs testing solely for phase 1 clinical trials.  The position is responsible for ensuring the separation of incoming samples according to the priority of order, to facilitate the quick transfer of specimens from the sorting bench to testing departments both internally and externally and accessioning of these samples.

The position will also require you to perform quality data entry of specimen request into the appropriate software; entering, updating, researching, verifying and/or retrieving data into/from various systems; and ensuring the accuracy and confidentiality of information recorded.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with the Privacy Legislation and the Australian Clinical Labs privacy policy
  • Adhere to corporate and hospital site / business units policies and procedures
  • Maintain a high quality, team focused, accurate and efficient work environment
  • Accurate and timely entry of data from specimen referrals into the appropriate computer data system.
  • Ensure time-stamping is done in a timely manner
  • Customer service by providing requested information; resolving problems raised by stakeholders.
  • Be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the department.
  • Ensure the separation of incoming samples according to the priority of order, to facilitate the quick transfer of specimens from the sorting bench to testing departments both internally and externally and accessioning of these samples.
  • Maintain and initiate excellent customer service skills at all times.
  • To communicate any relevant information to the Supervisor and to the Manager.
  • The ability to prioritise specimens through interpretation of referrals
  • The ability to maintain a steady workflow of specimens from specimen reception staff for processing throughout the lab
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager

  • Ability to make sound evidence based decisions under pressure
  • Proven skills in defining, prioritising and organising competing tasks to meet deadlines  Ability to demonstrate the highest levels of confidentiality and integrity at all times 
  • Previous experience in Clinical Trials will be an advantage

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build meaningful partnerships
  • Efficient and polite communication style, taking into account cultural diversity and disabilities Ability to influence to negotiate outcomes
  • Experience in working under tight deadlines to meet day to day targets, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks within set timeline
  • Works effectively as part of a broader team
  • Results orientated and a proactive and effective problem solver
