Assistant Vice President / Vice President

SMBC is a major international bank with a leading position in the Australian Corporate and Project Finance market.

Our Sydney Branch has enjoyed strong growth with corporate and institutional clients across multiple industry sectors and is now ranked amongst the leading foreign banks in Australia. 

An opportunity has become available for an Assistant Vice President/Vice President to join the Treasury Planning team in the Treasury department in the Sydney branch. This position will be responsible for Treasury Planning including Asset and Liability Management (ALM) planning, and the introduction of new products to the department. This role will also be expected to assist in achieving the Treasury budget with effective ideas and measures, and also assist all other Treasury teams to promote their business from an administration and planning perspective.

Reporting to the First Vice President, Treasury Planning, this position will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Collecting of data and production of ALCO materials.
  • Producing planning material (i.e. 3 Year Funding Plan).
  • Producing monthly reports for the regional Planning department.
  • Calculating Treasury Profit and reconciling with the Market and Liquidity Risk Management department daily.
  • Analysing the Treasury Profit structure.
  • Assisting the First Vice President, Treasury Planning and other Treasury staff in terms of ALM management, requirements from APRA and the other regulators, and the introduction of any new products.
  • Co-working with other Treasury teams (eg. Funding & ALM team and FX, Derivative Sales team) to help them achieve their KPIs.
  • Maintaining control of risks under the limits set by Head Office.
  • Reporting problems or irregularities or substantial losses that may arise to the First Vice President, Treasury Planning and/or the Senior Vice President Head of Treasury
  • Preparing applications of dealing authority when required.
  • Preparing credit applications for Treasury front office when required.
  • Undertake any other tasks requested by the First Vice President, Treasury Planning and Treasury teams to help them achieve set KPIs.
  • Complying with SMBC policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining necessary accreditation and undertake training as required for the role.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • 5-7 years’ banking & finance experience in the following areas: Foreign exchange; money lending/borrowing including 11 am CD/CP, ECD/ECP and issuance.
  • Tertiary qualifications majoring in Banking & Finance.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • High-level accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Experience of developing key stakeholder relationships within a business.
  • A good standard of English written and verbal skills.
  • Appropriate Industry Accreditation (AFMA). 

Japanese Language skills both verbal and written, and knowledge of Japanese banking business is desirable.

High-level knowledge of Australian Banking standards, as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements (E.g.: APRA) etc would be advantageous.
