Public Relations Officer

Throughout your career you will have the opportunity to support Army domestic activities, including exercises and operations, with potential deployments overseas in support of Australian and coalition personnel.

Your Role

As one of Australia's largest employers, the Army has a significant public profile that requires careful management. In this role you'll take charge of a small dynamic team that's critical to the public perception of the Army.

You will be the communications conduit between the Army and civilian networks, with responsibilities that include:

  • Leading Army public affairs teams in support of Army activities (including exercises and operations)
  • Provide public affairs and issues management advice to Army commanders
  • Develop and implement strategic, operational and tactical communication strategies
  • Undertake effective media liaison, escort and support duties
  • Prepare media releases
  • Conduct media awareness training for Army personnel and
  • Oversee the gathering, management and quality of Army public relations product (including stills and video imagery, and articles for Army publications)

Salary

•           Salary package worth $77,838 per annum plus superannuation and other benefits (upon completion of initial training requirements)

Location

•           Training in Canberra ACT

•           Posting to Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Sydney or Townsville

Entry Requirements

•           Aged 17 to 56

•           Australian Citizen  

•           An appropriate tertiary qualification in Public Relations, Journalism, Corporate Communications or Marketing

•           4 years’ experience in Public Relations, Journalism, or Corporate Communications. Marketing experience will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Security Clearance: Negative Vetting 1.  The Department of Defence requires all ADF entrants to obtain a security clearance appropriate to their avenue of entry.

A process of background checks, collection of relevant information and, as required, interviews enables the Regional Security Office to make an informed assessment of an applicant’s suitability for a security clearance.

Current policy requires applicants for this particular avenue of entry to have lived in Australia for the preceding 10 years, or have a checkable background for this period.  Waivers may be considered.
