WHS & Environmental Manager

The Role:

Navantia Australia currently has an exciting role for a WHS and Environmental Manager to join the team in its Corporate CBD office in Sydney. 

As the WHS Subject Matter Expert, you will primarily be responsible for achieving and maintaining Navantia Australia's WHS and Environmental Certification and ensuring compliance with the Safety Management System and relevant legislation.

You will drive the overall WHS, environment strategy and programs across Navantia Australia offices and will be instrumental in ensuring that all safety and environmental programs are aligned to the overall integrated management strategic plan.

 

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop, implement and maintain the WHS Safety Management System
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with the WHS Safety Management System and relevant legislation
  • Achieve and maintain Navantia Australia's WHSE Certification (ISO45001 & ISO14001) standards
  • Develop and provide ongoing leadership, support and coaching to the WHS Officer
  • Develop WHSE policies, procedures and guidelines and drive continuous improvement
  • Review and update WHSE documents contained in the Corporate Management System to ensure that all documents are relevant and up-to-date
  • Demonstrate highly effective written and oral communication skills in different forums such as WHSE Committee and safety consultative meetings
  • Identify, monitor and evaluate significant WH&S problems and develop strategies to eliminate or minimize these risks
  • Implement effective WH&S training programs for managers, supervisors, new employees and those involved in particular hazard areas to ensure the adoption of safe working practices
  • Prepare reports for the Executive Committee on a regular and ad-hoc basis in order to inform these areas of WH&S issues of concern and compliance with legislation
  • Identify safety training needs, develop and deliver appropriate training sessions in relation to relevant legislative compliance

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS or related discipline
  • Good knowledge of WHSE Management System (ISO45001 & ISO14001)
  • Minimum 10 years' experience working in a WHSE role preferably in defence, maritime, aviation or rail industry
  • Experience in developing, implementing and maintaining WHS and Environmental Certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships in all levels of the business and clients
  •  An AGSVA Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of Baseline or be eligible to apply
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
