Community Support Worker

What do we do?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Limited (IUIH) is a not-for-profit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisation which leads the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for the Indigenous population of the South East Queensland region.

IUIH and its Members serve Australia’s largest and fastest growing Indigenous populations, predicted to reach 131,000 in 2031.

As a Community Support Worker in our Zilmere team, you will be providing domestic and social support to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders eligible aged members. The role will required you to perform in accordance with Client Care plans and the Community Care Common Standards. The successful applicant will be join a diversity and support team who thrive in supporting our elders in their homes.

About the Role:

  • Demonstrated skillset to community effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • An understanding of the health and social issues impacting upon indigenous people in the area
  • Experience in providing personal care assistance to clients in their homes, according to their care plans (e.g. bathing, showering, grooming, nutrition, oral hygiene)
  • Strong initiative by supporting elders to maintain their independence and remain in their own home
  • Ability to assist with general client care, including undertake personal care, domestic assistance, social support, respite, meals and transport activities

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Criminal History Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate & CPR Certificates
  • Reliable vehicle with proof of registration
  • Minimum Certificate III in Aged Care / Individual Support
