Founded in 1970, the Ted Noffs Foundation is a nationwide organisation, which offers young people the support and opportunities to reach their full potential.

Noffs is seeking an Engagement Worker / Youth Worker who can deliver regular creative arts workshops. The role has a strong focus on quality engagement via creative arts, music, dance, spoken word, rap, performance and events for young people between the ages of 12-25 to address their substance use and associated problems. These programs aim to use creative arts as a vehicle to empower young people and increase their motivation to reduce their substance use and antisocial behaviour.

The Street University is an innovative youth driven space that engages at risk young people through a range of educational, recreational, cultural and art-based programs. Street University focuses on assisting marginalised young people who do not traditionally engage with mainstream services.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Promote meaningful engagement by young people in programs.
  • Acquire local knowledge and develop meaningful dialogue with young people.
  • Develop and maintain varied and viable program of sports, creative arts and recreational activity for young people.
  • Work with young people to ensure their ideas contribute fully to the planning and delivery of sessions, projects and activities.
  • Evaluating and supervising Volunteers to run workshops.
  • Develop effective working partnerships with local and national statutory, commercial and voluntary organisations.
  • Look for opportunities to form further community partnerships and programs
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare high quality reports.
  • Manage the smooth day-to-day operations of the centre.
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant meetings.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in working with young people, preferably those with alcohol and other drug related difficulties.
  • Experience in a community development setting.
  • Initiative, creativity and practical life skills to organise positive group programs and other activities for young people.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and build positive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to multi-task with attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of client management systems.
  • Commitment to the principles of harm minimisation and to the aims of the Ted Noffs Foundation.
  • Successful candidates MUST have a current and valid ACT Working With Vulnerable People card prior to commencing employment.
  • Current driver's licence and a good driving record.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Good understanding of Logic Pro Recording Software.
  • Ability to set up equipment for recording sessions and concerts.
