About Our Site

Our Benalla site is Australia’s only major manufacturer of ammunitions and munitions components to the Australian Defence Force. With nearly 300 local staff on site, a subsidised canteen and ample free parking, this is a friendly rural manufacturing site offering a great work environment.

Our Opportunity

The Thales Benalla Facility manufactures a large range of ammunition and explosive ordnance, primarily for the Australian Defence Force. The munitions manufactured and assembled include small arms ammunition, medium calibre ammunition, large calibre ammunition, grenades, detonators, simulators, charges, bombs and mining boosters. The Production Engineer will be based within the Product Engineering Team providing technical assistance and support to production execution, this is a great opportunity to utilise your existing engineering skills and enthusiasm to learn in this unique and interesting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with production teams manufacturing various munitions
  • Industrialisation of new products
  • Proactively lead and/or assist in resolving product quality, or plant reliability issues affecting production
  • Drive and assist continuous improvement activities
  • Project Manage installations and upgrades to plant and equipment
  • Maintain Technical Data Packs to ensure the most up to date information is used

About You

  • Degree in Engineering (Chemical / Mechanical / Material or equivalent) with eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing using the MS suite
  • Previous work in a Manufacturing environment a distinct advantage, especially within Hazardous work areas
  • Exposure to Lean/Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Project management ability and capability of conducting Root Cause Analysis
  • Solid time management and prioritising skills

Special Requirements

The position is dependent on the candidate eligibility to obtain a Defence Security Clearance.

The suitable candidate needs to be ITARS cleared; therefore Thales needs to know if you hold any passport other than Australian, or have dual citizenship.

You will also need to successfully clear a pre-employment medical and police check.
