ABOUT THE ROLE

It is AFL NSW ACT’s vision that participation growth continues to build. Specifically, this position will oversee and implement AFL programs to gain maximum participation levels at AFL Auskick, School and AFL 9s, with a further focus on driving transition of participants into the AFL Sydney community club environment. This role will help drive a healthy, vibrant and sustainable club network with an enhanced focus on engaging female, multicultural and indigenous communities.

Please note employment in this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal history record check. The successful candidate is required to possess a valid ‘working with children’ check.

The AFL has extensive procedures and checks in place to protect children and young people in our organisation.

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

  • Implement a strategic platform for growth of AFL through the sub-region.
  • Ensure optimal acquisition, retention and transition of participants through delivery of a full range of relevant AFL participation programs.
  • Deliver and ensure the best quality customer experience across all football and fan engagement programs.
  • Maintain quality control of all development staff and activities under their supervision through school and community programs.
  • Work closely with Junior and Senior Community Clubs to build inclusive, sustainable environments and pathways including enhancing player retention and transition.
  • Ensure club development through support and the delivery of education in key areas including:
    • volunteer recruitment;
    • financial management;
    • club governance;
    • AFL policies;
    • strategic planning.
  • Oversee a casual workforce in line with AFL values.
  • Support a range of activities with the Sydney Swans to support fan engagement and membership outcomes.
  • Oversee budget for program delivery and casual staff within the sub region.
  • Communicate clearly and engage with parents, teachers and volunteers across all programs to support transition to other AFL products.
  • Work with Community Clubs and Local Councils to develop facilities to become open and enterprising while catering for diverse communities.

 

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Mandatory:

  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Outstanding leadership skills and in particular the ability to lead a team
  • Proven strategic planning and implementation capabilities
  • Strong business acumen
  • Knowledge of education and community participation sectors.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a diverse and extensive portfolio of projects concurrently
  • Satisfactory “Working with Children” check or ability to obtain
  • Due to the nature of the sporting industry must be willing to work outside normal business hours from time to time such as evenings and weekends.
  • NSW Driver's License

 

Desirable:

  • Formal qualifications in management required along with extensive industry experience – more specifically Sports / Business management qualifications an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of AFL regional network and programs in NSW/ACT.
  • Understanding of community sport or participation programs.
