Assistant Content Producer, BBC Central Editorial

The BBC’s Central Editorial team powers digital products seen by millions of people across the UK every day. We connect audiences across the UK with the BBC's content on desktop, mobile, tablet, Red Button and Connected TV.

We produce the bbc.co.uk Homepage, trusted by 8m people a week to take them to the best of the BBC’s online offering. We also support the pan-BBC search engine, and promote Red Button services used by more than 17m people a week. 

The team has recently expanded to support innovative new products, and further develop its mission to bring the best of the BBC to audiences, whatever their interests, wherever they are, every hour of every day.

The Assistant Content Producer works on a wide range of editorial production, monitoring and research tasks.

Job Purpose

The Assistant Content Producer works in a multi-skilled team to deliver a range of tasks and services. These include finding and promoting timely and relevant content on the bbc.co.uk Homepage and finding, creating and editing images to illustrate the BBC’s great content for upcoming seasons and events. The Assistant Content Producer is also responsible for finding, creating and editing images to illustrate the BBC’s Radio programmes or producing promotions on our connected TV services.

Accountabilities 

  • To create compelling promotional content for the bbc.co.uk homepage
  • Sourcing, creating or editing appropriate images using Photoshop or other appropriate software
  • Writing contextual copy for promotions or images, reflecting BBC or external events in a compelling and imaginative way across a range of interfaces
  • Scheduling and coordinating promotion on broadcast and connected Red Button platforms
  • Ensure all types of content delivered to audiences are relevant, appealing, accurate and are of a high standard
  • Monitor and ensure successful and editorially compliant delivery of bbc.co.uk central services including Search, Homepage, Red Button and iPlayer Radio
  • The timely identification and escalation of any problems as they arise with the appropriate BBC team or external partner
  • To produce or review audience data and usage and respond appropriately to patterns of use or user behaviour

Knowledge & Skills

  • An up to date and relevant understanding and passion for news, sport and entertainment content
  • Solid understanding of digital media audiences, their interests and media consumption 
  • Excellent editorial and technical judgement, in choosing compelling imagery to illustrate a range of content 
  • Picture editing skill and use of  key web production tools and software including Photoshop and Content Management Systems 
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of audience research and data to inform editorial decisions
  • Ability to identify and respond to editorial and legal issues, managing through to an appropriate resolution
  • An appreciation of BBC's high editorial standards and values. 


Shift work will be required, including on weekends 

This role will be directly hired and based from Australia. As a prerequisite to apply, applicants must currently hold full rights to live and work in Australia via citizenship, permanent residency or another appropriate working visa.
