Learning Enrichment Teacher

General Information   

Established in 2003 MBBC is a P – 12 boys’ school set in the leafy bayside suburb of Manly West. It currently has 500 plus enrolments. At MBBC, Primary School encompasses Years Prep to 6 and Secondary School encompasses Years 7 to 12.
  
Relationship with Moreton Bay College
  

An historic turning point in the College’s evolution occurred on July 1, 2011 when Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC) and Moreton Bay College (MBC) became formally amalgamated on the premise that they are stronger together. Governed by a joint Board and led by a single Principal with each school retaining its single sex focus and its own personality and attributes, both schools have significant strengths to offer the other and together have a unique market leading proposition in private school education. We work together to harness our expertise, resources, knowledge, facilities and business functions to best effect.

Our Vision is Two Colleges, One Community, preparing our students for tomorrow’s world.

The vision recognises the fact that we are two colleges, each different and unique in their own way, equally valued and respected for their different histories and cultures. APPOINTMENT  
  • Permanent Part-time 0.5 FTE position.
  • The Learning Enrichment Teacher is appointed by the Executive Principal, is responsible to the Head of College and reports directly to the Learning Enhancement Coordinator.
  • The Learning Enrichment Teacher is a member of the Learning Enhancement Team (LET) and is expected to work closely with the LET and the Heads of sub-school.
  • The position will attract a salary as determined through discussion on appointment and will be reviewed by the Head of College.
  • The Learning Enrichment Teacher is responsible for the development of the enrichment and gifted and talented education (Prep – 12).

KEY DUTIES  
  • Oversee and implement procedures for identifying students with academic and creative giftedness.
  • Oversee and implement weekly Primary Enrichment session for bright and gifted students.
  • Analyse standardised achievement data for bright and gifted students to set individualised goals and to inform teaching and learning
  • Create and maintain records and files on students participating in enrichment and gifted and talented programs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop, implement and review learning plans for all identified students.
  • Provide professional development for teaching staff in order to enhance programming for students with gifted and talented needs.
  • Collaborate with and provide coaching for classroom teachers on strategies for meeting students’ special needs relative to gifted and talented programming.
  • Coordinate the development of special projects or activities and events that provide opportunity for boys to be extended/enriched and that promote the college as a school that values and celebrates giftedness.
  • Regularly communicate with parents and staff about the gifted and talented program.
  • Confer with the Learning Enhancement Coordinator and the College Leadership Team regarding resources to enhance the gifted and talented program.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of existing curriculum in order to identify opportunities for extension.
  • Participate in the deliberations on learning needs of all students.
Skills and Abilities
  
The teacher needs to display the ability to:
  • Articulate their philosophy of learning.
  • Inspire, influence and motivate.
  • Work collaboratively and productively with colleagues.
  • Provide challenging, student-centred approaches to learning.
  • Communicate and interact openly and effectively.
  • Use technologies effectively in the teaching/learning program.
  • Describe their practices in planning, implementing, monitoring, assessment and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the life of the College through the classroom and through the co-curricular program.
  • An interest or experience in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program would be an advantage.
This teacher must also be
  • A self-directed learner.
  • Prepared to approach change positively.
  • Willing to contribute to curriculum development.
  • Flexible in approach and thinking.
  • Passionate about teaching and learning.
  • Empathetic to the needs of students and parents.
  • Totally support the values and Christian ethos of this Uniting Church College.
Education and/or Experience
  • Must hold an appropriate tertiary qualification – Degree in Education.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.
