RAM Engineer

UGL's Transport & Technology business has an opportunity for a RAM Engineer for our new Regional Rail project based in our North Sydney project office for the initial 24 months with the potential for relocation to Dubbo, NSW after this time.


The primary purpose of this role is to work as part of the Engineering team, and reporting to the Senior Project manager, to support the engineering development process to deliver products that are safe and reliable by design and build and are approved for service entry. Carry out safety and reliability, availability & maintainability (RAM) engineering responsibilities that solve complex system requirements. Provide schedule estimates on safety and RAM tasks to the project team. Provide technical expertise in support of other departments and less experienced personnel.

 


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Calculate equipment failure rates using data from various sources and develop Reliability Block Diagrams with this information.

  • Development of Systems requirements based on contractual and project requirements; the Company’s legal obligations, Product Safety Policies and Procedures.

  • Production of selected system fault analyses; review of system requirements verification evidence; and, production of system requirement compliance evidence.

  • Liaison with the engineering team to determine and develop Systems concepts for complying with the Systems requirements. Liaison with system engineers and suppliers to determine and develop system concepts for complying with the system requirements

  • Provide functional guidance on preparation of inspection and test plans and ensure proper staff approval and implementation occurs.

  • Ensure that all the necessary safety analyses are conducted according to requirements and schedules and perform detailed safety analyses and hazard analyses using techniques such as FMEA (failure mode and effects analyses) and FTA (Fault tree analysis

  • Ensure compliance with all record keeping requirements.

  • Undertake any adhoc projects, initiatives, tasks as directed by the Senior Project Manager.

Qualification and Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent.

  • A thorough sound understanding and knowledge of manufacturing/fabrication and maintenance and project management principles and practices.

  • Must be familiar with system design process and well versed in probability, statistics, and modelling techniques

  • Previous experience in a reliability driven environment, such as a maintenance department, would be highly regarded

  • 4-6 + years Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, and/or Trade experience in a locomotive maintenance field preferred

  • Experienced gained in the rail, automotive, military, defence, avionics or any other safety critical environment.
