School of Communication and Arts

The School of Communication and Arts is a large, research-intensive unit with an international reputation for outstanding research and teaching in English Literature, Art History, Communication, Media, Film and Television Studies, Journalism and Communication, Public Relations, Creative and Professional Writing, and Drama. It has over 50 academic and research staff and 10 professional staff. Our academics are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds. The School is one of seven schools within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and is based on the St Lucia Campus.

The School teaches into the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Communication, the Bachelor of Journalism, and the Bachelor of International Studies, and has a suite of postgraduate coursework programs. Its postgraduate programs include Creative Writing; Writing, Editing, and Publishing; Strategic Communication; and Communication for Social Change. The School attracts a large number of Australian and international students to its research higher degree programs, which may be undertaken as PhD or MPhil.

About This Opportunity

As the Communications & Events Officer, your role will be responsible for the coordination of the School’s engagement and communications activities and provides support for digital content production. Working collaboratively with the HASS Marketing and Engagement Team and the HASS Advancement Director, you will also be involved in developing and maintaining a range of communications and marketing materials.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants should possess qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Proven strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills are essential to the role as well as the ability to work both independently and within a flexible team environment.

Strong stakeholder engagement experience and the capacity to work with a variety of people including professional and academic staff, students, and members of the broader University and external community, will be advantageous. The applicant is expected to have experience using online and digital communications applications desirably in a tertiary education environment and including website and social media content management.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW level 6.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,400.25 - $83,267.08, plus super of up to 17% and recreation leave loading of 17.5%.
