The Visitor Experiences Assistant will work within front of house as first point of contact for Canberra Glassworks. Working beside the Visitor Experiences Supervisor, they will assist with retail sales and operations, arts administration, exhibition sales, and the overall visitor experience.

This includes retail and exhibition ales and administration,  ensuring quality visitor experiences, bookings administration for educational programs and assisting with the coordination of  Volunteers. This role will provide support for many of the Glassworks' staff in tasks that cross into Visitor Experience including areas of marketing, admin and production. 

This position would suit a developing arts administrator who is an enthusiastic team player,  and has a strong interest in contemporary glass and the arts.  They will have the opportunity to work with a professional administration team in the historic Kingston Power House. 


Hours: Part time – 9:30am -5.30 pm alternating days per week; Thur ,Fri, Sat and Fri, Sat, Sun. 

There is some flexibility around these days to suit the successful applicants timetable.

Start date: October 2019

Term: 12 months (with possible 12 month extension)

  • Arts administration and/or retail and exhibition sales experience in a similar organisation and a strong track record of achieving sales targets;
  • Demonstrated high level customer service philosophy with professional presentation, clear written and verbal communication skills, and a commitment to providing quality visitor experiences.
  • The ability to compassionately and considerately work alongside a mixed demographic of staff and artists.
  • Experience in using relevant IT programs which may include Microsoft Office Suite, MYOB, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, Powerpoint, Social Media, Rezdy, Xero etc;
  • Demonstrated performance within a small team in a similar arts & culture or tourism environment;
  • The ability to manage work priorities in high-pressure situations and with limited resources.


  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current ACT Drivers Licence (Manual)
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate

Operating since 2007 and primarily funded by Arts ACT, Canberra Glassworks provides artists with state-of-the-art equipment; intensive workshops taught by leading glass artists; studios and mentorship programs; and a unique context to explore, develop and realise new work. It is overseen by a Board of Directors led by Chair, David Whitney. Canberra Glassworks staff work closely with a network of leading glass artists who are resident in and operating from Canberra Glassworks.
