Workpower is WA's second largest disability service provider. We provide an extensive range of support services and programs for people with disability, people with mental health conditions, their families and carers. Workpower is focused on providing opportunities through supported or open employment and community support and respite.

About the role

As a Community Support Officer you will have to ability empower and support individuals achieve their goals! Your role is to provide support as directed by the individual and family by using a person centred approach.

We are looking for individuals who have experience working with a diverse range of participants and families to provide support in a culturally appropriate way.

We have a range of shifts available ranging from 15 - 35 hours a week on a casual basis.

If you meet the criteria there is a possibility for permanent part-time employment with a two hour minimum guarantee  on shifts.

We have positions available North and South of Perth which include individuals looking for ongoing support to assist them to achieve their goals in:

  • Employment – support people in work experience or to build their work skills
  • Life Skills –coaching people toward their goals such as: getting a job, being more independent around the home, joining a community group or working on health and fitness - The list is endless!
  • Community Participation - support individuals to access and participate in their local community
  • School Holiday Program -  assist children and youth aged 7-17 participate in a range of community activities

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with individuals with a disability and/or mental illness
  • Have the skills to support individuals in a range of settings
  • Have a 'can do' attitude
  • Have an inclusive approach and enjoy supporting people to support their goals
  • Interest in developing knowledge of different cultures
  • Have great customer service skills
  • National Police check (less than 30 days old)
  • Working with Children check
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Current C Class drivers licence

In addition to the above criteria, the following is desirable

  • Certificate IV in Disability Services
  • Experience working with people who live with Autism in a community setting
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of mental health
  • Experience designing and implementing transport training programs 
  • Experience providing employment support and coordination within a community setting
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Experience providing positive behaviour support
  • Medication Management Training including; management of epilepsy, diabetes and other medical conditions 

Please be aware that at times the candidate may be required to use their own vehicle in the course of their duties, a mileage fee will be reimbursed.
