Online Learning Advisor – Diploma of Nursing

Online Education Services (OES) are an education provider that offer educational services for students and professionals including university programs. This position will be working within OES in association with Swinburne Online

Swinburne Online delivers world-class learning through degrees specifically designed for online. Each degree or diploma is tailored to provide opportunities for students who are often unable to undertake university studies on campus.

Here at Swinburne Online, the student is at the forefront of everything we do and this role is an opportunity to support and guide our Diploma of Nursing students through their learning journey. Our Online Learning Advisors (OLAs) are the subject matter experts who facilitate the student’s learning, with a focus on helping them achieve their goals.

Who are we looking for?

We are currently looking for OLAs who are motivated by student success, passionate about the online platform and who are experts in their field to facilitate in the Diploma of Nursing course. As facilitators, you will have planned academic content and be the first point of contact and support for our online students.

The OLA role is remote so you will have flexibility in where and when you work. The expected workload commitment is 4-6 hours per week, per group and there should not be more than 48 hours between logging in. You should be proactive and dependable and have a remote working environment that enables you to provide high-level support to the students.  

Must-have

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related area, Masters level qualification highly preferred

  • Clinical practice with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse or relevant experience and strong discipline knowledge 
  • Current registration with AHPRA as a registered nurse (if applicable)
  • High level written communication skills
  • Strong organisation & planning skills
  • Confidence and resourcefulness in learning new technologies
  • High levels of empathy for the challenges experienced by online students
  • A passion for helping students succeed both academically and personally

Desirable skills and experience

Previous experience as a role model taking an active role in teaching less experienced staff

  • Educator for specific clinical programmes
  • Clinical Nurses, Educators and Nurse Practitioners highly regarded
  • Working with Children Check preferred

Requirements of the role

Our OLAs are responsible for the following:

  • Delivery of planned academic content
  • Facilitating learning activities and assessment tasks (including e-moderation, assessment and feedback)
  • Marking, processing and submitting assessment results

Online Learning Advisor are not required to establish curriculum, design learning activities, schedule learning and teaching, set assessments or develop marking schemes.

Prior to the commencement of your first teaching period, you will undertake a 3-week training course which will equip you with all the skills and support you’ll need to be highly successful in the role.
