About the role
Reporting to the GM - Asset Engineering the Head of Engineering will support the Asset Engineering Division by identifying engineering risks and implementing controls and modifications to support safe, effective and efficient asset management of the Metro Trains Sydney network.

As the Head of Engineering you will:

  • develop, implement and review technical, quality and operational standards, in conjunction with a team of technical specialists to ensure compliance.  
  • review asset maintenance policies, procedures and instructions and make recommendations to improve cost efficiency
  • manage the Network Access and Possession Management framework including the implementation of the framework to ensure optimisation of engineering hours and possession works.
The Head of Engineering will support incident investigation activities on behalf of the Engineering Department to identify root causes for action by the Asset Engineering Division. You will also maintain the Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) status for MTS in conjunction with the Safety, Quality and Environmental Manager.

About you
You are an expert in maintenance management, planning and up-keeping of assets and related systems for modern railway systems.  

You have:
  • experience in technical investigations 
  • a record of delivering continuous improvement initiatives.
  • solid experience and knowledge of Asset Management and an in depth understanding of budgetary, cost control and performance measurement activities. 
  • highly developed computer literacy and experience using, managing and maintaining a computer-based Asset Information System.
You are an excellent communicator with the ability to provide authoritative advice and manage positive relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

You are analytical and a problem-solver with the ability to develop, implement and support management systems and processes and drive continuous improvement.  

To be eligible for this position you must have a tertiary qualification in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering appropriate for admission to the Institute of Engineers Australia.
