One of Australia’s most high profile Federal Government Department’s is looking to engage an experienced Toxicologist who will run Independent analysis and critical evaluation of complex data on the non-clinical properties of products including biological medicines and biologicals. Based in Canberra, you will join an established team responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of pharmacology and toxicology data submitted for a wide range of products, including prescription, over the counter and complementary medicines, biologicals, vaccines, cell and tissue products and drug-device combinations. The successful Toxicologist will be offered an initial 2-year contract plus extensions at a competitive daily rate.

The successful Toxicologist will be responsible for but not limited to;

  • Undertaking critical analysis of complex data on the non-clinical properties of products including biological medicines and biologicals
  • Preparing of comprehensive written scientific assessments that consider the risks to humans from the use of goods identified from non-clinical data/information and using international best-practice methodology
  • Delivering technical recommendations consistent with the regulatory framework within the department
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of scientific capability and business processes of the section and branch


The successful Toxicologist must have the following;

  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills
  • Experience working in regulatory science would be desirable
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant qualification within the biological sciences field i.e. biochemistry, biology, biomedical science, biotechnology, cell biology, immunobiology, microbiology, pharmacology, physiology, toxicology, veterinary science, virology and etc, or any other relevant discipline from an Australian tertiary institution or comparable overseas qualification
