Today, Merlo is proud to be one of Australia’s leading independently owned and operated coffee roasters, who supply the public, our own Merlo Coffee stores and 1,600 cafes and restaurants with freshly roasted coffee around the country every day.

About the Role:

As the 2IC of our UQ Bar Merlo, you will play an integral role in fostering our customer-centric service culture in the heart of the University of Queensland. If you're not afraid to get your hands dirty and love everything about meeting and exceeding customer experience expectations and like a challenge, this role is for you!

The key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Customer Service: ensuring Merlo’s famous customer-focused service is maintained by all employees
  • Staff Management: assisting the Store Manager in directing, training, rostering and organising a team of 10+ employees
  • Product Knowledge: continuously educating staff on coffee and product knowledge
  • Financial Management: performing day to day cash and stock management, purchasing and profitability management of site, wage percentages and sales targets
  • Store Management: maintaining the presentation and daily running of the store to the highest standard, including food safety and OH&S.

About you

To be successful in this exciting role, you will have;

  • Minimum (2) years of High Volume Coffee making experience, preferably with specialty coffee;
  • Minimum (1) year shift supervisory or management experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive and healthy workplace culture.
  • Full Time availability;
  • Strong leadership skills, and demonstrated ability to lead by example;
  • An outgoing personality coupled with a genuine love of customer service;
  • A passion for coffee – join us in our obsession for the taste of quality coffee and the entire crop to cup process.
