Quality Assurance Manager

An exciting opportunity currently exists for a QA Manager to join the team at our Brooklyn Plant. Located just 15 minutes west of the Melbourne CBD, our Brooklyn Plant is a 5 day, multi-species operation with the capacity to process up to 1,400 head of cattle and 8,200 head of small stock per day.    

This position will support the Plant Manager in supervising and meeting all legal and licensing requirements in relation to food safety and quality assurance, supervise QA Officers on a day to day basis and liaise with production and AQIS (Australian Quarantine Inspection Service) officers.  To provide support to the Southern JBS Plants when required.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Development and maintenance of the documented quality management system
  • Quality system auditing
  • Ensures the FSQA documentation and monitoring is maintained accurately
  • Ensures that the company is well informed of all relevant legislation,
  • Maintains an up to date reference standard documents and lists and liaises with AQIS
  • Attends all audit meetings
  • Ensures that a description of general duties or work instructions are in place
  • Oversees corrective action including product retention and disposition.
  • Ensures that the regulatory standards are being achieved in all areas of the plant
  • Analyses the operation of the system regularly and examine feedback information;
  • Use analysis and feedback from all sources to suggest changes to the FSQA system
  • Attends and records the minutes at Management Review Meetings.
  • Writing, storage and updating of product specifications.
  • Ensures that test equipment is being calibrated.
  • Oversees insect and vermin control programs as set down in the SSOP
  • Maintain filing and register of all controlled documents
  • Liaises with AQIS and AUS-MEAT
  • Attends AQIS audits with OPV, AQIS ATM, Overseas reviewers as required.
  • Carries out internal audits of the quality system as required
  • Training needs, identification and implementation.
  • Participate in training programs for Supervisory Staff as authorized by the PM.

Skills and competencies to be demonstrated by this position include:

  • Sound knowledge and application of HACCP principles
  • Good computer skills and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to identify critical aspects of production
  • Relevant certification including Ausmeat standards
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and IL systems
  • Microbiological knowledge
