Funds in Court (FIC) is a self-funded division of the Supreme Court of Victoria, managing funds paid into Court, primarily for people under a legal disability. All funds are held, invested and administered by the Associate Judge of the Court who is the Senior Master. FIC provides support and services for over 5,500 persons under ‘legal disability’ (beneficiaries).

The Accounting & Tax Section of FIC assists with the collation, preparation and lodgement of tax returns with the Australian Tax Office (ATO) in respect of the funds, investments and assets held by the Senior Master.

 

About the role:             

The Financial Accountant is a key member of the Accounting and Taxation Team and is responsible for providing key support to the Accounting and Taxation Manager in ensuring the efficient management of the operations of the accounting and taxation staff of Funds in Court.

 

In addition to managing external financial reporting and audit requirements this position also provides comprehensive advice and reporting to key stakeholders, manages communication with FIC Beneficiaries, ATO and regulatory bodies as required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the team with month end financial reporting, cash-flow reporting, analysis and management of financial presentations.
  • Assisting Accounting & Taxation manager in external and internal audits.
  • Assist Accounting & Taxation manager in creation and implementation of budgeting and forecasting procedures.
  • Provide comprehensive advice, high-level operational support and reporting to the Accounting and Taxation Manager, Senior Master, General Manager and Executive Managers.
  • Proactively maintain up-to-date knowledge of the financial services provided by, and the procedural and practical requirements of the Senior Master, and/or relevant legislation.
  • Seek continuous improvement of financial accounting process to enable the delivery of an efficient and stream-lined service, documenting changes to processes and procedures.
  • Play an active role in the development of financial reporting and the projects set up to enhance overall financial control.

 

About you:               

  • CPA or CA qualified or working towards these qualifications is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in the trustee or related industry would be highly regarded.
  • Ability to autonomously manage your work load.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with ability to influence and guide direction while managing expectations.
  • Strong Excel modelling and analytical skills (essential).
  • Ability to work within a team environment and willingly support other FIC staff in the pursuit of optimal outcomes for beneficiaries.
  • Well-developed attention to detail.
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to support decision making and recommendations.
