About the role

 

Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre is offering a dynamic  role for a suitably qualified and experienced professional to join our Family and Community Connections Team. The Financial Counsellor will provide information, options and advocacy for individuals and families who are experiencing financial disadvantage. This includes assessing, developing and implementing strategies for addressing financial difficulties. The position works as part of an early intervention model for vulnerable  families, individuals, and young people. The position works from a client centred, strengths based approach, with a focus on maintaining client dignity, choice and empowerment to achieve meaningful life outcomes.

Skills and experience

 

The successful candidate will have the following essential requirements:

  • Diploma in Financial Counselling and membership of a relevant financial counselling association
  • Commitment to social justice, cultural diversity, accountability and integrity
  • Two years industry experience working with vulnerable families, with a strong awareness of the issues facing people in financial hardship
  • Demonstrated experience delivering financial counselling services
  • Strong level of communication, written and  interpersonal  skills, particularly when working with people experiencing heightened vulnerability/ crisis
  • High level computer skills,  documentation and  attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a high volume workload
  • National Police Check, Working with Children Check and First Aid (or willing to attain)

Desirable Criteria

  • We encourage applicants from ATSI or CALD backgrounds
  • Tertiary qualifications in social science/ human services/community services
  • Drivers licence and fully insured vehicle
