Electrical and Control Systems Engineer

The Role:

Do you want to be part of a leading organisation, which dates back 300 years in the shipbuilding industry?

In 2016, Navantia Australia was awarded the AOR sustainment contract to build HMAS Supply and HMAS Stalwart, which is due to commence service with the Royal Australian Navy from mid-2020 and will remain in service for a minimum of 25 years. Navantia Australia will be responsible for the sustainment of both ships along with the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) and form the AOR System Program Office (AORSPO). 

Navantia Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical and Control Systems Manager to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. You will be responsible for Electrical and Control System engineering and will be the Subject Matter Expert to support the in-service requirements for the AOR platform in the overall delivery of sustainment services for the AOR Vessels. The successful candidate will be confident in establishing a collaborative working relationship with the Navantia Spain engineering IPT, the Commonwealth and the Industry Partner(s) to create and grow a best practice and efficient engineering support capability. 

 

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Support the Platform design manager and the Engineering team, solve technical issues and maintain technical integrity of Electrical and Control Systems to meet RAN and applicable Class regulations.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager and the Program Director in matters to do with the Electrical and Control System engineering of the AOR Platforms.
  • Conduct Technical Engineering investigations, including triage of Electrical and Control System related reports
  • Conduct Technical Risk Assessments and assist in Maintaining the Electrical and Control System related Technical Risk Register for the AOR.
  • Conduct System Safety engineering activities Electrical and Control System related systems
  • Conduct supportability and engineering analyses for the AOR Platform, including FMEA, RCM and MRD.
  • Lead, Develop and Deliver Engineering changes using Systems Engineering approach.
  • Develop Technical Instructions, review maintenance instructions and prepare amendments
  • Prepare AOR plans and reports as required for the Maintenance Manager of the AOR TLS Program Director.
  • Witness System Pre Availability and Post Availability V&V activities and provide reports
  • Maintain the Technical Support Network for Electrical and Control System.
  • Manage and co-ordinate subcontractors and other resources required performing the required technical and maintenance activities
  • Support Asset Management requirements, including Life Cycle Cost investigations, Annual Works Programs.
  • Manage and coordinate the test and activation processes related to platform systems.
  • Assist Navantia S.A and the Navantia Project team as part of the overall engineering and the tests and trials team.
  • Develop a working knowledge to operate and maintain AOR Electrical and Control Systems and subordinate equipment and assist with development of; ILS deliverables, engineering documentation and maintenance documentation, contract change proposals and be Navantia Australia’s Electrical and Control System representative during the Phase In.

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven skills and experience  in Electrical and Control Systems Engineering functions
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience leading technical programs in defence &/or maritime
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships in all levels of the business and clients
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Australian Citizenship and be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of Baseline
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestic and international when required
