The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and deliver of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.

Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS) is a member of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH), dedicated to support healthy, strong and vibrant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities by providing comprehensive primary health care services to the Indigenous population within the Moreton Bay Region.

We are seeking a highly skilled Family Support Worker who is passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women throughout their pregnancy through to early childhood. A key aspect of this role is delivering social and emotional support whilst assisting women to access health and social services

About You:

  • Ability to identify women who would benefit from additional support in pregnancy
  • Developing and implementing social wellbeing support plans that address any identified concerns
  • Support and promote the use of a holistic strengths-based approach
  • Participate in the multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality care

Essential:

  • Strong Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community member
  • Demonstrated ability to meet targets and performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Blue Card (willing to obtain)
  • Criminal History Check (willing to obtain)
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate (willing to obtain)

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Previous experience working in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Qualification in Human Services, Primary Health Care or Early Childhood

Under S25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous. A Confirmation of Aboriginality may be required from the successful appointee
