Clinical Trials Research Assistant

Full-time, 12 Month Contract

The key aim of our SAHMRI Women and Kids (SWK) theme is at the forefront of research in nutrition in the first 1000 days to ensure the best possible health outcomes for pregnant women and their children. SWK are leading research to reduce premature birth, optimise health and developmental outcomes of infants and children through nutrition, improve long-term outcomes for babies born prematurely, and reduce child allergies.

The Clinical Trials Research Assistant will join the vibrant SWK team to assist with research activities to a high standard of quality and in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines. The role will interact with a range of external stakeholders including study participants, health professionals, internal and external investigators, study researchers and clinical staff and pharmacists.

About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake assessments for clinical trial participants, including standardised psychological assessments, such as the Bayley III and WPPSI, in accordance with GCP and trial protocols
  • Conduct all aspects SWK clinical trials in accordance with ICH GCP guidelines and the trial protocol.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Successfully screen and enrol research participants from various settings to achieve recruitment targets in accordance with GCP guidelines and trial protocol.
  • Ensure that potential participants are fully informed and give written consent for participation in trials
  • Execute randomisation procedures, distribute study product and collect samples from participants in accordance with study protocol.
  • Collect, process, label and store samples appropriately as required by trial protocols
  • Accurately collect and record data from participants and source documents for entry into case report forms and web-based data management systems.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • Honours degree in psychological science, or equivalent
  • Experience with young children
  • Enthusiasm and integrity
  • Excellent people skills and communication skills 
  • Ability to maintain and understand the importance of confidentiality and privacy at all times
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritise work and work independently as appropriate
  • Experience in a research environment, including recruitment, enrolment and data management, preferred.
  • Understanding of Australian hospital systems and experience in working in a hospital setting, including ability to understand the implications of conducting research within this setting, preferred
