The Embassy of Japan in Australia is seeking a well-organised and responsible person for the role of Assistant to Consular, Visa and Security Affairs

1 Duties may include, but are not limited to:

-Assisting in issuing Japanese Passports, Certificates and Japanese Visas, including processing applications, interviewing, answering phone calls and managing emails etc.

-Assisting in registering with Japanese family registration

-Providing consular services to Japanese citizens

-Translating documents into Japanese and/or English

-Contacting Australian Government departments, including organizing and assisting meetings

-Assisting Consular, Visa and Security Affairs staff as required, including interpreting, making enquires, photocopying and filing, etc.

2 Requirements for this position include:

-Proper legal status to work at the Embassy in Australia

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English

-Comprehensive IT skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint)

-Highly organised, motivated and flexible approach to assigned duties

-Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines

-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

-Demonstrated capacity to promote Embassy work ethics, and work effectively in a team environment


The position is a temporary contract position from 13 January 2020 for 6 months.
A salary will be calculated in commensurate with experience based on the salary scale of the Embassy.

The Embassy of Japan, as an organisation of the Japanese government, will not employ those who simultaneously hold both Japanese citizenship and the citizenship of another country/other countries. If this applies to the successful candidate, they will be required to take the necessary steps to change their citizenship status to reflect this.
