Shipbuilding Engineer

Luerssen Australia  recently was engaged by the Australian Department of Defence as the prime contractor to build 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Royal Australian Navy over a 10 year  + project life.   In addition, Luerssen Australia has plans for long term growth in the Asia Pacific Region through the establishment of the Australian Maritime Shipbuilding & Export Group (AMSEG) with Civmec to pursue export opportunities in the region and other Australian naval projects. 

Shipbuilding Engineer (based in Henderson, WA)

This role is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and ensuring the installation of complex HM&E systems and ensures requirements are defined and met according to specifications. This role represents the German based technical department in the Australian project organisation.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Supports the project organisation in all questions regarding the construction in the field of shipbuilding of the OPVs.
  • Controls and monitors the component suppliers within the Lürssen PS-System.
  • Coordinates requirements (technology, time and costs) of the project between the technical department and vice versa.
  • Coordinates the building specifications.
  • Responsible for the seamless handling of the construction, supply and production in subject areas.
  • Performs basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of higher-level engineers in the development of system and technical products.
  • Collect information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements and analyses.

Selection Criteria:    

  • A bachelor or master degree in mechanical engineering with shipbuilding experience or relevant shipbuilding engineering or naval architecture degree is essential. 
  • An understanding of ship building ideally with experience of the Australian naval shipbuilding industry. 
  • Hands on shipbuilding experience through either an apprenticeship, traineeship or on the job training is desirable. 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as requested by the Company.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach particularly in the start up phase of the project/company - it really is 'all hands on deck'
  • Previous experience working with international companies/ employees/ cultures or active interest to do so.
  • A desire to work in an environment where your input matters and you make a difference to the Luerssen Australia people, project and company.
