Microbiology Analyst Level II

Supporting our customers supply chain and brands, the team at DTS have developed robust quality systems, invested in comprehensive equipment, assets and services to ensure that our facility is a world class operation.

DTS is seeking to appoint an Analyst Level II.  The primary objective of the role of the Analyst Level II is to perform routine sample preparation and testing, or make media. In microbiology this role is for people who prepare media and perform sample preparation tasks.

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Working safely
  • Calibrating equipment
  • Contributing to quality objectives
  • Keeping the laboratory fit for purpose – temperature charts, cleaning, refilling solutions, restocking of consumables
  • Performing straightforward technical tasks to prepare samples and conducting simple routine tests using manual or semi-automated techniques 
  • Indicative preparation and testing skills used at this level include; batching samples and printing labels, membrane filtration using the vacuum manifold, start up of microbiological tests for detection of bacteria and inhibitory assays, time bound transfers with the Good Laboratory Practice as required in a Physical Containment 2 laboratory, setting up and packing away the Dilumat system and generating quality control samples,  incubating plates, using weigh balances, aseptic technique, serial dilutions, pouring plates, streaking cultures, preparing stock solutions and standards, operating autoclaves and using automated dispensers.
  • Receiving and logging in samples using laboratory application software
  • Recognising when something is going wrong and solving predictable problems using known solutions; where alternatives exist they are limited and apparent

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Science or related discipline 
  • Hands on experience in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to prioritise work in order to meet daily deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Capacity to work effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of OHS requirements within a laboratory
