Queensland Marine Superintendent

Sea Swift is Australia's largest privately and locally owned shipping company, providing marine freight and logistics services to Northern Australia and surrounding regions, including Far North Queensland, Cape York, Torres Strait, Northern Territory communities and coastal islands.

Sea Swift provide a wide range of logistics & services to Northern Australian communities including General Cargo, Fuel, Freezer Chiller, Breakbulk, RoRo, Adventure Cruising, Mother-shipping and Tug/Barge operations. Due to business growth we invite applications for a dynamic Marine Superintendent based in our Cairns Head Office.

Reporting to the QLD Marine Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with vessel crews, operational staff, HSEC and HR departments in order to meet the challenges associated with a growing business.  Your previous experience in developing strong, sustainable relationships with crew, staff and governing bodies; and the tenacity to manage a fleet of vessels ensuring safe, compliant and reliable operations  will see you thrive in this position.

We require applicants to have the following qualifications and experience:

  • MED1, Master 3 or higher desirable
  • Experience working with Regulatory Authorities at all levels including AMSA, GBRMPA,MSQ
  • Experience developing, implementing and maintaining Safety Management Systems (SMS), including being able to fulfil the requirements of the NSCV
  • Experience developing, maintaining and implementing changes to marine processes and procedures for compliance and business improvement purposes
  • Extensive experience managing and leading a team
  • Previous Management of vessels / Operations preferable
  • Previous experience coordinating the movements of a range of vessels, and the transportation, scheduling and crewing of such vessels
  • Must have contemporary vessel experience including Tug and Barge operations.
  • Experience with marine audits advantageous
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
